Why not quads? They can be twice as fast as dual cores when you use professional software that is written to use them. And both the AMD and Intel quad processors are very reasonable (if you stay away from the i7 for a few months)

Yep, color me "me too" on that one. When I can get a motherboard that supports the core-2 series of quad cores for $60 or less versus an i7 motherboard at $300 plus, and then I have to stuff it with a processor that is $300 at the bottom end of performance and I can get similar stats in a higher end core-2 for less money by overclocking, there's no debate. And then there's the issue of having to buy all new memory. I'm not going to pay that much just to show off.

When I can get an i7 and motherboard combo for around $300 and it still has the option of using DDR2, I'll think about it.

Responding to a question posed in an exiting thread with a personal blog link is not spam.

Nevertheless, since the forum exists to promote Revision3 programs, any members are understood to be tacitly soliciting for information about Revision3. Therefore, Revision3 employees themselves cannot spam the forum as long as they post to promote Revision3 programs.

I would also suggest a desktop unless you truly need a laptop. With laptops, you're locked in to the hardware...what you buy initially is pretty much what you're stuck with unless you buy a really expensive high end model. You can put in a larger hard drive or more memory, but that's it. You can't, for instance, change video cards as better technology becomes available, or switch to a faster processor as technology and your budget allows. And if your interest is in graphics, then you're going to want to be able to change out your graphics cards every now and then.

And no, I do not think you have to go Mac. If that's the way you *want* to go, there is no reason not to. Go buy yourself a Mac. It will certainly do what you want. But don't go in thinking its a requirement. As tokensuer says, the days that Mac ruled the roost for graphics-oriented occupations is long long *long* gone. I do a *lot* of video editing. And anything anyone else can do on a Mac I can do on this PC, and I can do it just as fast and efficiently.
