I'm a little behind in my Tekzilla, having just watched Episode 45. A system can also be recovered from its factory state by selecting "Boot Options" at the startup and restoring the system from a hidden partition. I just did this with an older HP and I know Dell installs hidden partitions with system images as well. This won't fix your scratched disks, which are useful for things like add-ons, but you can get the system running without waiting for disks. As always, backup the data before choosing this option. Sorry I didn't see this episode sooner to make the suggestion.

I think Microsoft (and other companies) say it the way they do because, basically, if you have to ask what does /PAE do and questions like that, you probably don't need to be monkeying with that kind of thing yet until you do some more reading and learning :)

I don't think its bogus as there is a reason for the /PAE switch being there, I think they just try and persuade people not to use cos it can cause issues for drivers and other software which isn't designed to operate in the address system above 32 bits. I'm fairly sure that's the reason anyway.

I use an old 1994 Packard Bell microphone that came with a 486DX2 back in the day. It has served me well and will join my clan in the clearing under the rainbow bridge one day.

Assuming that all the lady wants is to voice chat (ie: Teamspeak, Ventrillo, etc), then the Plantronics GameCom-1 (formerly known as the Audio 90) should suffice. Hell, for ~$18 on newegg you can't go wrong. I've been using the same one for about a year and a half now w/o any problems. Its very comfortable, unlike the other models which put alot of pressure on the front part of your ear instead of conforming to the shape of your head. Seriously, Plantronics dropped the ball with those.
(and no, Best Buy, Office Depot, and Circuit City do NOT carry the GameCom-1....atleast the ones here don't.)

Hard drives have some of the strongest permanent magnets around *inside* them. Assuming the case of the drive has not been opened, you're going to have to put magnets around it stronger than what most consumers would be buying to have any effect on it.
